Terms
Kupenga shows council and register information about liquor licences, and lets a signed-in user keep notes on those leads. These terms cover use of kupenga.co.nz.
The account
You need an account for the full contact column and for saving notes. You are responsible for the activity under your login. The price shown on the site is one month free, then $99 a month. The app does not take payment yet. We will not charge you until a payment step exists and you choose it.
The information
Licence rows come from public registers and council publications. They can be incomplete or wrong, and they are not legal advice and not a substitute for the council’s own record. Auckland is the region in the product today. Other regions marked “soon” are not live.
Phone numbers and emails are for contacting a business about its licence. Do not use them for unrelated marketing. If you email someone, the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007 applies to you.
When a venue’s own pages give no phone number, a signed-in user can ask for the number its Google Maps listing gives. Kupenga includes Google Maps features and content. Use of Google Maps features and content is subject to the current Google Maps End User Additional Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
What you save
Notes and contacted marks are stored for your account’s workspace. Don’t put information into a note that you are not allowed to store.
AI assistant
Accept lets the assistant remember this chat when you come back. Decline keeps the chat working, and it forgets the conversation when you leave the page.
The chat in the corner of each page is an AI assistant. If you accept, we set one first-party cookie (kp_chat) holding a random ID and nothing else, kept for 90 days, so the chat shows your history when you come back. Your browser’s scripts cannot read that cookie. It is never set before you accept, and it is deleted if you later decline.
We keep your messages, the assistant’s answers and the time of each for 90 days either way, then delete them. We use them to answer you, to see what visitors ask and to improve the site. We may also summarise a day’s questions for the Kupenga team, using the same AI provider. A summary can quote questions word for word, and is deleted after 90 days like the messages.
To write an answer, your message and the recent conversation are sent to our AI provider (xAI or Anthropic). They process it on our behalf, which can mean outside New Zealand. We do not ask for your name or email in the chat. Please do not type personal information you do not want kept.
“Clear chat history” in the chat deletes the stored conversation straight away. A daily summary written before you cleared it can still quote it until that summary is deleted.
A separate essential cookie, kp_consent, records whether you accepted or declined, so we do not ask on every page. It holds only “accepted” or “declined” and lasts 12 months. You can change that choice with “Cookie settings” in the chat panel or at the foot of the page.
Liability
The service is a business tool. Where the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 can be contracted out of for a business, it is. To the extent New Zealand law allows, we are not liable for decisions you make from a licence row, or for loss from the site being unavailable.
Changes
We may update these terms by changing this page and its date. If you keep using the site after that, you are using it on the updated terms. The privacy statement and cookies page sit alongside these terms.
